Mức tiêu thụ điện chiếu sáng của Việt Nam hiện chiếm khoảng 25,3%, cao hơn rất nhiều so với thế giới. Nếu áp dụng các giải pháp tiết kiệm năng lượng, mỗi năm cả nước có thể tiết kiệm được 7.120 tỷ đồng và giảm thiểu đáng kể lượng khí thải carbon.
Bộ trưởng Thương mại Mỹ, ông Gary Locke, đã phát biểu hôm thứ Hai (16/11) rằng công nghệ năng lượng sạch là một trong những khu vực đem lại nguồn lợi lớn nhất cho quan hệ hợp tác Mỹ - Trung và cũng là cách duy nhất để giữ duy trì tăng trưởng kinh tế và kiểm soát sự biến đổi khí hậu toàn cầu.
Với vai trò chủ chốt trong cung cấp điện cho phát triển kinh tế đất nước, thực hiện chủ trương đa dạng hóa nguồn điện của Chính phủ, nhiều năm qua, EVN đã nỗ lực bền bỉ trong việc nghiên cứu và triển khai các hoạt động để chuẩn bị sẵn sàng cho nhà máy điện hạt nhân đầu tiên của Việt Nam.

Tiết kiệm điện đồng nghĩa với việc giảm sức ép chi phí thường xuyên phải trả trên hoá đơn tiền điện. Tiết kiệm điện giúp doanh nghiệp hạ giá thành, nâng cao năng lực cạnh tranh trong bối cảnh hội nhập và sức ép tăng giá năng lượng.
Sang năm 2010, Cục điều tiết điện lực sẽ hoàn thành để trình ban hành thông tư Quy định thị trường phát điện cạnh tranh vào quý I/2010.
